Analysis of current Policy Outlook and System Readiness Framework

This policy brief by Leadership for Equity (LFE) provides an overview of existing policies in India concerning social-emotional learning (SEL) and student well-being, and summarizes the current understanding and recommendations for integrating well-being goals into state programs.

Key Learnings

This report was created to address the growing concern for child and adolescent well-being in India, particularly in the wake of the pandemic. It aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of social-emotional skills, policies, competencies, indicators, assessments, and the current status of SEL integration in India. 


The key learnings from this report include:

  1. A summary of existing policies and frameworks related to SEL in India.

  2. A student assessment tool adapted from the CASEL framework and developed in the context of public schools in Maharashtra.

  3. A readiness framework to assess the preparedness of systems to implement student well-being programs.
