Teacher Training Needs Analysis in Nashik, Maharashtra
This report presents findings from a comprehensive training needs analysis (TNA) conducted among 2,250 teachers in the Nashik district of Maharashtra, India. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys, focus group discussions (FGDs), interviews, and classroom observations to gather both quantitative and qualitative data. The research aimed to understand teachers' perspectives on various aspects of professional development, including training content, delivery methods, and post-training support, to inform the design of future teacher training programs that are more aligned with the actual needs and preferences of teachers.

Teachers have a strong preference for in-person training over online or blended learning formats, valuing the interaction and peer learning opportunities that in-person settings provide.
Teachers identified technology usage, subject knowledge (particularly in math, English, and science), and classroom management as the top areas in which they desired further training.
There is a recognized need for more support in teaching children with special needs (CWSN), including specialized training and resources.
Teachers in tribal blocks expressed a desire for training on incorporating local language and context into their teaching to make the content more relevant and accessible to their students.
Approximately half of the teachers surveyed expressed a desire for classroom-level support after training, highlighting the importance of ongoing guidance and mentorship for effective implementation of new skills and knowledge.

The findings from this study can be used to design more effective teacher training programs that are aligned with the needs of teachers. This can lead to improved teaching practices and student learning outcomes. By understanding teachers' preferences for in-person training, focusing on relevant content areas, incorporating interactive elements, and providing ongoing support, training programs can be tailored to maximize their impact on teacher professional growth and, ultimately, student achievement.
